In 2020-21, I joined the amazing team at Jaguar Formula E and contributed to the development of the i-Type 5 Gen 2 powertrain (an electric engine). This project involved C firmware development, both low and high-voltage hardware circuit development, and a variety of rig and track-side testing at Williams Advanced Engineering in Oxford, UK.
This was the highest-power and highest-voltage application I've worked on so far, at a rated power of 250kW in formula E races for the 20-21 season, and a nominal system voltage of 800 volts. Certainly one of the fastest-moving projects - the firmware was usually iterated on moments after downloading telemetry data from the car.
The Jaguar i-Type 3 powertrain won multiple podiums in the season, and ultimately finished 2nd place overall in the 2021 world championships at the hands of talented drivers Sam Bird and Mitch Evans.
