About me
Hi! I'm Nick Tyler, an engineer based in RÄ«ga, Latvia, in Northern Europe.
My work focuses on end-to-end electronics and firmware development, taking projects from concept to a fully functional device. I have worked across audio engineering, power generation, electric motorsport, space systems, industrial electronics, and product development. I also hold a first-class master’s degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from the University of Nottingham, UK.
Beyond technical execution, I prioritise business objectives, manufacturability, scalability, maintainability, longevity, and robustness at every stage of a project. I believe that technical complexity for its own sake can easily become a liability, and so the best solutions are often the simplest — achieving your business objectives with minimal cost, risk, and complexity while still remaining adaptable to change.

FAQs
Will you subcontract or ‘farm-out’ my project?
No. You are engaging my skillset and experience for your project. For larger or time-constrained projects, we can discuss options for bringing in extra talent, but never without your explicit consent and a mutually-agreed screening process.
Is my Intellectual Property (IP) safe?
Yes. You own 100% of the designs, code, schematics, and all other IP in your project, and I expect to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA). Your IP is strictly controlled and stored in private, 2FA-protected project repositories. When our project is complete, I will remove your IP from my devices if you request. And if your organisation uses specific security protocols, we can work within these.
Will you work at our office?
Yes. I typically deliver projects from my own development space, using my own equipment, and travel to client sites when necessary and geographically reasonable. However, some hardware projects just need people in the room together. Mutually-agreed expectations about onsite work can be included in our contract.
Can I hire you as a full-time employee?
It is normal for me to work solely on one project for a fixed term (eg, 6 or 12 months). For several reasons, I operate as a service-provider LLC - where your project will receive the same level of commitment and quality as a full-time employee, without the overheads, administrative burden, and associated risks. I can also provide fractional support to existing teams in this way.
Can we work together internationally?
Yes. I am an experienced fully-remote worker, with a proven record of successfully delivering both hardware and software projects to clients across different time zones. I use Google
G-Suite for secure online video meetings, file-sharing, and scheduling tools within a regular internet browser—the only thing you need is an internet connection.
I see you're in Europe. My business is based outside of the European Union. Is that a problem?
No, it's not a problem. As a VAT-registered LLC, I can partner with companies anywhere in the world. We will discuss any specific compliance requirements such as data protection or export controls in our free initial meeting. Regarding invoices and taxation, please see the next question about VAT.
Will I be charged VAT?
I am required to charge VAT on all domestic (inside Latvia) transactions. If your company is both VAT-registered and outside of Latvia, then your invoices will indicate 0% VAT on a Reverse-Charge basis, and you must file the correct VAT/GST for your country. In all other cases, Latvian VAT (21%) will appear on the invoices. If you have further questions, please contact me.
